![]() I could use a pick-me-up! Leave a comment and let me know – is there something you’ve secretly loved ever since you were a child? Sled dogs? Ukuleles? Trains? Skiing? What is it? Do tell. Surely I’ll discover something great – some hint of a freedom I can’t experience from off the rail. I had a great time capturing the dogs’ expressions during the Eagle Lake Mad Bomber 30 and, during the Can Am, I am going to pay particular attention to the mushers’ faces. Do they? They do! These huskies? They love this. These spritely, lean pups don’t pull a sled, musher and equipment over dozens of miles or hundreds of miles of winter terrain. So maybe it happened that I dug a foxhole next to the trail and – by golly – those dogs are sure obedient, because they all just ran right past me like they were born champions. It was a great opportunity to practice my camera skills and, well, also my placement skills. I had the pleasure of photographing mushers and their teams during a pre-cursor dog sled race this past weekend – the Eagle Lake Irving Woodlands 100 and Mad Bomber 30 races. There are about a hundred other great names.) (This is simply a cross-section of lead dogs. They’re great:īang | Apple Core | Remy | Glock | General | Castor | Ozark | Seven | Knickers | Tuckamore | Glacier | Bonanza | Lucy | Grenade | Moab | Fenway In addition to researching their very-real alter-egos, I also looked into the names of their lead dogs. Jessica Holmes – age 22, nursing student from Maine | Eric Chagnon – age 47, forestry foreman from Quebec Mushers in the 30-mile raceĭeAnn Watson – age 14(!), student from Maine | Luc Gaudreau – age 45, molecular biologist from Quebec | Joan Chapman – age 70, kennel manager from Maine | Leigh Hunteman – age 61, flight instructor from Maryland | Scott Isabelle – age 51, assistant superintendent of schools from New Hampshire | Mary Beth Logue – age 45, school counselor from Pennsylvania | Abbey Miller – age 16(!), student from New Jersey | Penny Gray – age 55, writer, Maine guide and innkeeper (seriously perfect bio.) Check out their day jobs: Mushers in the 250-mile raceĪndre Longchamps – age 42, paving worker from Quebec | Mario Racine – age 49, Hydro-Quebec technician | Ryan Anderson – age 31, carpenter from Minnesota (won the CanAm 250 last year!) | Spencer Thew – age 71, Professor of Engineering from New York Mushers in the 60-mile race The Can-Am Crown takes place in the beginning of March and the eclectic mix of mushers always piques my interest. According to the mushers, Can-Am trails are ‘less broken’ and of greater difficulty than the Alaskan trails. Though the Iditarod is more than twice as long as the Can-Am 250 race, mushers that have competed in both races claim that the Can-Am is more difficult than the Iditarod. It’s the longest sled dog race in the eastern US and is a qualifier for the Iditarod race in Alaska. The Can-Am Crown is a big deal to more than myself and the competitors. I am enraptured by the idea of dogs doing what they love to do – and of how it must feel to ride through bitter winter landscapes on wood rails that are glued together and webbed with rawhide. In 1994, Disney released the movie Iron Will and, as a girl who used to dream about boys that were hard-working, tenacious and cute, I was hooked from the get-go.Įvery year I watch Iron Will the night before the races. Each year, dozens of dog sled teams descend on our Main Street and duke it out for a hefty purse. iCursor is a very simple and easy to use application that enables you to quickly give an unique look to your pointer. But the app’s multi-screen functionality issues and it’s uttter refusal to work henceforth have caused me to feel distaste to the point of uninstalling it.I’ve had a crush on dog sledding since I was a young’un.īack in 1993, my hometown started hosting the Can-Am Crown, an international dog sled race that features a 30 mile, 60 mile and 250 mile competition. The few cursor effects that did work were vibrant, colorful, and unique, and had I only used one display, I would have found the product very useful. A little spell to transform your cursor into a magic wand followed by a trail of stars or fiery fireballs or littlee pulsating hearts. There are many customizable effects and you can also create and share new effects with other users. The app was officially deemed dead weight on my SSD and uninstalled today. iCursor is a funny and useless app for Mac OS X, it attaches to your cursor pointer a lot of particles. ![]() ![]() ![]() Moreover, from that day forward, I was not able to use iCursor at all with any template despite rebooting, hard rebooting, and plugging and unplugging all of my displays. Also, scrolling through the list of template trails, I found that most of them were duplicate and triplicate copies of one another, renamed, giving the app the appearance of having many more options than it came with. After the install, I found that iCursor only functioned on the primary display. I use a three screen system, and the main reason I tried this product was to keep track of where my mouse was more easily.
